Transfer battle: Arsenal must beat Sevilla to N’Zonzi

Many Arsenal fans will be delighted with how the club have gone about their transfer business this summer.

Unlike seasons past, the club have gone about their business early and not waited for the closing stages of the transfer window to try and snap up some players.

Emery has admitted that Arsenal’s transfer business is just about finished but according to reports, the club are interested in signing Sevilla midfielder, Steven N’Zonzi but will now face competition from AS Roma according to Calcio Mercato.

Roma are reportedly ready to match his £31 million release clause, although Unai Emery is keen to reunite with the midfielder that he bought in 2015.

The Breakdown

Roma have been on a heavy recruitment drive this summer, and want a player to partner De Rossi in midfield. The World Cup winner has fallen out of favour at Sevilla after starting his career in Spain so well and could be a great signing for either club.

While Arsenal may need to sell players to bring the World Cup winner in, the defensive midfielder would be a good addition to the squad. The Gunners lack depth in midfield although they recently signed Lucas Torreira and French youngster Mattéo Guendouzi and could well do with a midfielder that is smart with the ball but can also sit in front of the defence.

While Granit Xhaka signed a new contract recently, the Swiss midfielder has had an up and down career at Arsenal. He may at times show some talent with the ball but at others, he has been exposed defensively. Not only is N’Zonzi a great reader of the game, he’s also smart with the ball.

So Arsenal fans, what do you think?
