After a tough start to the season, West Ham have started to find some form despite losing to Brighton on Friday night.
Before the loss on Friday, West Ham had gone unbeaten in four consecutive games including a superb 3-1 win over Man U.
With so many new players joining the club, it’s no surprise that West Ham have started to put some wins together, namely down to the superb performances of Felipe Anderson. The Brazilian has been a revelation for the Hammers this season, since joining from Lazio over the summer.
On the other side, Andriy Yarmolenko has started to show the form that attracted Borussia Dortmund last year.
So with two superb wingers on the books at the club, let’s compare the two.
Joining the club for £17.5 million from Dortmund, Yarmolenko’s career in Germany didn’t quite take off despite scoring six goals to go with six assists in 26 games.
During his time with Dynamo Kiev, the forward had become one of the better players in Europe as he scored 137 goals in 340 games during his time in Ukraine. At his best, the winger is a dominant force going forward and it seems that like West Ham, he’s just starting to find his feet in the league.
So far for West Ham, the Ukrainian has scored two goals to go with one assist in nine games, which although isn’t an outstanding return, as the season progresses, his output should begin to improve.
At 28, West Ham have a player that is the prime of his career and could be a big player for the club this season.
TT Grade: B
In tandem with Marko Arnautovic, Anderson has been the club’s best player and was one of the club’s leading lights during the club’s poor form earlier this season.
In his last season with Lazio, the Brazilian scored four goals to go with seven assists and seems to have the potential to be able to better that this season. At his best, Anderson scored 10 goals to go with eight assists in Serie A and so far his pace and ability to drive the club forward has been a great addition.
With Arnautovic through the middle and Anderson on the left wing, West Ham now look like they have a duo that can take them back into the top eight.
After a few poor seasons in the transfer market, it looks as though the Hammers have finally hit the mark with Anderson.
TT Grade: A
Both wingers look set to be two good pieces of business from the West Ham owners. Not only will both players add goals to West Ham’s attack but also help Arnautovic going forward.
Although it’s still early in the season, at this point in time, Anderson wins this battle due to his instant impact but also the potential he has to be a top player.
It was a close battle but the Brazilian just wins it, although West Ham fans should be happy with both players.
