Transfer Battle: Salah vs Aubameyang

Mo Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are two of the biggest names and talents in the Premier League.

Both have entered their second season in England’s top flight with their clubs and look impressive.

They are two of the most lethal attackers in the world, so let’s compare these two transfers…

Mo Salah

When Liverpool signed winger Salah from Roma last summer for £34m, it made big news, but it wasn’t necessarily for the right reasons.

The then 25-year-old was famous in England for his unsuccessful stint with Chelsea. The Egyptian spent three years at Stamford Bridge, which included a loan spell at Fiorentina and Roma, and only managed to feature 13 times for The Blues, scoring twice.

Despite a slightly embarrassing past in England, the Egyptian was truly sensational last season. Not only did he help guide Liverpool to the Champions League final, individually he won the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, the FWA Footballer of the Year, the Premier League Golden Boot with 32 goals, Premier the League Player of the Season, as well as winning the FIFA Puskás Award for goal of the season and coming third in the The Best FIFA Men’s Player.

No one from any club in England could deny that he was the best player in the Premier League last season, and arguably the best player in the world for the first half of 2018. It was a deal that exceeded all expectations, and made £34m look like a bargain.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal signed Aubameyang from German giants Borussia Dortmund for a new club record fee of £56m on January deadline day, in a very bizarre bit of business. The Gunners also sold striker Olivier Giroud to rivals Chelsea that day, as Chelsea loaned striker Michy Batshuayi to the German side in a merry-go-round of transfers. They needed a man that was going to consistently score goals for Arsenal, and Aubameyang looked to be that man.

The Gabonese international bagged 10 goals in 13 appearances for The Gunners last term and has carried that good form into this season, scoring seven goals in 10 appearances so far. Alongside Alexandre Lacazette he is forming one of the most deadly partnerships in Europe and is helping Arsenal become a serious threat again.

While his price tag was slightly extortionate, as he is already 29-years-old, he is certainly remunerating the club with his performances.

TT Verdict:

While Aubameyang has certainly been impressive for Arsenal, it is impossible to look beyond the Egyptian in this battle.

Not only was Salah much cheaper and younger than The Gunners’ striker, but he has achieved so much more. He has catapulted himself to one of the leading names in world football, and it is for that reason he has to win this battle.
