They were involved in a bore draw against Chelsea last night and Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still slightly downbeat.
Their mood isn’t improved after one of their top targets, Angel Di Maria, moved to deny he asked to leave Real Madrid according to Metro.
The winger has been on the periphery of things this season since the arrival of Gareth Bale and has made it very clear that a life playing second fiddle is not exactly what he envisaged.
After a rather poor reaction to being substituted in a cup game, not to mention seeing him name linked with transfers constantly, it has now been claimed that the winger has asked to leave the Spanish capital.
Di Maria however has moved to deny this and claim that his future lies with Carlo Ancelotti and Los Blancos.
He claimed: “No I have not asked out. My head is at Real Madrid. You [journalists] put that I was going to Tottenham or another club. You know where these reports come out.
“I’m happy at Real Madrid. I never asked for a renewal. A player who does not play cannot request a renewal.”
Di Maria is wanted by a host of clubs, with Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in the hunt, not to mention Monaco.
As our landlord notes, there is also strong interest from England, with Arsenal and fellow North London side Tottenham Hotspur keen on bringing the player to the Premier League.
Quite if this will now happen given the reluctance of Di Maria to actually put his unhappiness at the club on record remains to be seen.
Will Di Maria stick it out and fight Bale for a starting berth at the Bernabeu? Let us know your thoughts below.
