Transfer blow for Chelsea and Everton fans to compound weekend misery

Both Chelsea and Everton fans were drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after seeing their side lose in the Premier League.

Antonio Conte’s Blues went down 1-0 to league leaders Manchester City on Saturday thanks to Kevin De Bruyne’s second half strike, while the pressure intensified on Toffees chief Ronald Koeman on Sunday after his side lost 1-0 at home to Sean Dyche’s Burnley.

Those results will leave both managers which much to ponder over the international break, and our resident supporters of both clubs are unlikely to be overly thrilled with a recent report from Radio Crc (via talkSPORT), which includes some intriguing quotes from the agent of Kalidou Koulibaly, a reported target of the Premier League duo.

The 26-year-old defender currently plays his trade at Napoli and has done so since 2014, in which time he has made 130 appearances for the club, netting five goals in the process.

And with two goals in seven successive Serie A victories this season already, the Senegal international continues to prove his worth to the Italian side, form which reportedly attracted the interest of both Chelsea and Everton earlier in the year.

However, no move materialised for either side, and it doesn’t look like either will have much of a chance in the foreseeable future as well given recent quotes from Koulibaly’s agent, Bruno Satin.

He said: ‘We renewed his contract a year ago and it’s valid until 2021.

‘He’s calm and happy, he’s playing for Napoli in a great team which is top of the league.’

‘It’s been a long time since Napoli have played such fun and spectacular football, they score so many goals and you can see that the players love playing in this team.’

These comments are sure to come as a blow for both Conte and Koeman, who may have to seek alternative defensive targets between now and the reopening of the transfer window in January.

Landlord’s verdict: Both Chelsea and Everton suffered disappointing home defeats over the weekend to leave both facing a fight to meet their respective aims this season.

And those results will leave both Antonio Conte and Ronald Koeman with much to think about during the international break, and recent quotes from Kalidou Koulibaly’s agent are unlikely to improve their mood much either.

The Senegal defender is reportedly happy at Napoli amid reported interest from the Premier League duo, and with a contract until 2021, it’s unlikely that either will be able to persuade and prize him away from the Serie A side anytime soon.

Thus, other targets may have to be considered by both Chelsea and Everton ahead of the New Year.
