Transfer chase for highly-sought after 23-year-old heats up as Man Utd ready summer move

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the rumours are true…

According to the Guardian, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has been made a priority target by Jose Mourinho and Man Utd – with the Red Devils reportedly keen to seal a deal for the Belgian this summer.

Lukaku is, of course, a man in-demand at present, with Chelsea touted as keen admirers of the 23-year-old.

The striker has been in fine form this season, firing his way to the top of the goalscoring chart in the Premier League, with his fine performances seemingly attracting the interest of some of England’s best teams.

Interestingly, Jose Mourinho was the manager that decided to sell the Belgian when he was at Chelsea, so a reunion with the Portuguese manager would certainly make for interesting viewing next season.

From Man Utd’s perspective, the supposed chase for Lukaku certainly makes sense. Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks likely to leave the club upon the expiry of his current contract, whilst Wayne Rooney can no longer really do a job as a number 9 – leaving Marcus Rashford as Mourinho’s only real option.

Jose Mourinho needs to ensure that transfer talk is put on the backburner for now, though, with Thursday evening set to play host to Man Utd’s biggest game of the season so far against Celta Vigo. A win will take Man Utd into the Europa League final, so the stakes couldn’t be higher.
