There are interested faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the Daily Mail claimed that Manchester United yet still be in with a shout of landing Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski.
It had seemed that the Polish forward was all set to join rivals Bayern Munich with the 24-year-old convinced his future lied at the Allianz Arena. Despite the host of top clubs chasing after him, Lewandowski claimed that he was only interested in joining the Bavarian giants and that a move abroad did not interest him.
The forward did not however count on the fact that current club Borussia Dortmund would be so unhappy with Bayern due to their capture of star man Mario Gotze and are now point blank refusing to sell to them leaving Lewandowski with two options – see out his contract at the Westfalenstadion and leave for free to join Bayern in 2014 or push for a move abroad this summer.
A Dortmund statement in Bild read that: “Robert Lewandowski will definitely not make the switch to FC Bayern in 2013. That’s final. We have informed Robert and his agents now.”
This of course paves the way for Manchester United and indeed Chelsea whose ‘Happy One’ Mourinho is a big fan of the player who put four past his former team Real Madrid. Alternatively should Lewandowski drag his heels, Dortmund could bear witness to a massive loss should the player move for free next summer.
Will Manchester United revisit their interest and bid for Lewandowski? Let us know your thoughts below.
