Interesting reports are emerging from the Football Transfer Tavern this morning that Chelsea are preparing to challenge Liverpool and Manchester United for Arsenal contract rebel Theo Walcott.
The Guardian reports that Chelsea are set to test Arsenal’s resolve by making an offer for Walcott during January. However they are likely to be challenged by both Manchester City and Liverpool who are closely following proceedings in North London.
As has been widely reported, Walcott is likely to be available for transfer during the upcoming window after he failed to agree a new deal at the Emirates Stadium and rather than losing him for free in the summer, the Gunners are ready to cash-in on the 23-year-old.
Several European clubs have also inquired about his availability and Juventus could be prepared to offer superior terms to tempt the player to try his hand in Serie A.
The race to sign the winger in the imminent January transfer window appears to be coming to a boil although the former Southampton man could turn down any advances in the new year and wait to become a free transfer where he can command a far more lucrative salary.
