Glum is not the word for Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and it looks set to get a little bit worse with the latest claim from ESPN.
The publication report that Bayern Munich star and top target Xherdan Shaqiri has taken steps to distance himself from a move to Manchester United and now seems to be backtracking rather rapidly on the idea of leaving the Bavarian giants at all.
The player’s brother was quoted claiming that they would certainly listen to offers from the likes of Manchester United and after Pep Guardiola described the 22-year-old as his ‘most important bench player’ we don’t blame him.
Now however, Shaqiri himself has come out and tried to dismiss these claims, using our favourite Luis Suarez excuse of being misquoted. He claimed: “I never said I want to leave,
“I’m very happy in Munich and I’m not thinking about leaving.
“My brother’s opinion was written a bit differently to what he actually said. But, of course, if a top club comes in, then you’ve got to consider it – but every player is like that.”
Do you think Manchester United are about to miss out on another player or can Moyes turn this one around? Let us know your thoughts below.
