It’s been fairly quiet day in the Football Transfer Tavern ahead of tonight’s Champions League action but some interesting quotes have just reached us.
They come from Sky Sports who report that Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has dismissed rumours linking him with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The 26-year-old Bosnian international concedes that he holds ambitions to feature for the best clubs in Europe but as yet he has heard nothing from either rumoured party.
He said: “There is no truth as far as I’m aware. I’ve not had contact with either club.
“From my point of view it’s flattering to hear those words – two of the biggest clubs in the world – but I’m just enjoying playing my football here.
“I focus on my job each and every day and make sure I perform every weekend for Stoke City.
“I’ve enjoyed my time here and don’t want that to change but everyone has ambitions to go as far in the game as possible but there’s been no contact.
Begovic admits that he wants to play against the world’s best players and he will have an opportunity to impress interested suitors at this summer’s World Cup.
He added: “I want to test myself against the best players in the world and to qualify for the World Cup this year with Bosnia is a huge achievement.
“It’s something I’m looking forward to and I’m just trying to progress my game and improve.”
Punters in the tavern believe Begovic is being totally genuine when it comes to his long-term future. After all, Manchester United have David De Gea!
Has Begovic shown enough class to warrant a move to a big club such as United or Real? Let us know your thoughts below.
