The Daily Mail have literally caused shocked faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they have noted that Samuel Eto’o is set to become a Chelsea player – and has agreed a massive pay cut to do so.
As we all know, Anzhi Makhachkala were paying the forward rather extravagant wages and it seems they were so high that even Roman Abramovich was not prepared to match them.
As one of our punters notes, this has not actually been much of a problem for Eto’o, who was so keen to escape his Russian exile he not only agreed to a massive reduction in his wages – to the tune of £10 million per year, but also turned down a reported two-year deal from former employers Inter Milan.
The Serie A side are of course the very same club that Mourinho first worked with Eto’o at, and the pair went on to lift the treble together in the most successful season in the club’s history.
Cameroon international Eto’o has made it very clear in recent days that ‘there is only one Jose Mourinho’ and now after arriving in London by train (saving money already!) the forward looks set to complete his transfer before the Super Cup fixture against Bayern Munich on Friday.
The news that Chelsea are set to sign another forward will finally allow David Moyes and Manchester United fans to breathe a little easier as the end of the transfer window approaches, as it looks like the Blues have finally ended their chase for Wayne Rooney.
Chelsea fans. Is Samuel Eto’o not a bad plan B to Wayne Rooney? Will he start above Torres & Lukaku? Let us know your thoughts below.
