There is nothing we love more in the Football Transfer Tavern than a good battle for the same player and it seems Chelsea and Manchester United could be set for a duel so talkSPORT say – if their target does not extend his contract that is.
The Premier League duo are both keen on Schalke star Julian Draxler yet the player may well snub both sides and chose to extend his contract with the German side – should they manage to qualify for a place in the Champions League. The player has been simply sensational for the side currently placed fourth in the Bundesliga and his performances have certainly been attracting interest from a host of clubs.
At a tender 19 years of age, the midfielder is fully aware that he has his whole career ahead of him and a move does not have to be made this summer. A contract extension at the Veltins Arena until 2018 is most certainly on the table and he even admitted ‘everything is imaginable’ when asked if he would stay with the Bundesliga giants.
However in news that could possibly give hope to both Premier League sides, he also claimed that: “I know there are some offers from some of the top European clubs and I think that is an honour.”
Chelsea and United are well versed in battling for players and it is their FA Cup replay that will take precedence in the next couple of weeks with both sides eyeing a tough semi-final with Manchester City.
