We are used to players issuing a come and get me plea to clubs here in the Football Transfer Tavern but one thing that has surprised us is the claim in the The Sun that Borussia Dortmund stars have begged their team-mate Robert Lewandowski to snub any offers and stay with them.
Lewandowski is a wanted man and has been heavily linked to Manchester United and also Bayern Munich with German press claiming that he had agreed to join the Bavarian giants in 2015. Now however Dortmund have asked the player to ignore all offers and stay with them to continue the project at the club claiming that it is ‘where he belongs’.
The Signal Iduna Park-based side are going strong in the Champions League and were Bundesliga champions last season. Not only do they have a top class manager in Jurgen Klopp but their squad also boasts the likes of Mario Gotze, Marco Reus and Mats Hummels meaning that Lewandowski is not the only world class player in the squad – in fact most of the German national team are at the club too.
Sir Alex Ferguson is a long standing admirer of Lewandowski and despite this week claiming that Javier Hernandez will be going nowhere in the summer, the Scot is still on the lookout to strengthen his squad for next season and the chase for the Champions League glory.
