It seems all about keepers today at the Football Transfer Tavern and Arsenal have been linked to another one in Metro who note that one particular transfer target would be keen on a switch to the Emirates Stadium.
It was only five minutes ago that the club were linked with Iker Casillas and now it seems that they are eyeing Rene Adler – the Hamburg stopper. The keeper would be available for around £5 million and Wenger sees that as a considerably cheaper option that that of Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas or even Sunderland’s Simon Mignolet.
Adler himself seems happy enough with the link – as any player would be and recently claimed that: “For any player it is an honour [to be linked with Arsenal].
“It is something that inspires me even more, and it is not distracting me.”
The player was picked up on a free transfer by Hamburg last season and it is thought that a decent offer from Arsenal would be enough to at least open talks for a move. Despite this, Hamburg’s sporting director Frank Arnesen claimed to Bild that nothing had happened yet noting: “I know Arsenal are looking for a goalkeeper, but we’ve not been contacted.”
Hamburg may value the stopper at around £7 million but Wenger is eyeing a bid of slightly less than that with many other targets including Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic who will take up a huge portion of the reported £70 million summer transfer kitty.
