Arsenal’s £42.5 million deadline day arrival Mesut Ozil has been voted as the signing of the summer transfer window, according to a poll run by the Transfer Tavern.
Out of all the readers surveyed, 40% of football fans voted the German playmaker as the best signing of the summer transfer window with Tottenham’s Danish international import Christian Eriksen just missing out by coming in second place with 38% of the vote.
The Transfer Tavern has been surveying the views of football fans all summer long, picking their brains behind the probability of signings being made, whether a player should have been signed and so on.
The evidence so far more than suggests that Transfer Tavern readers are indeed correct by selecting Mesut Ozil as their ‘signing of the summer’ with the former Real Madrid man having already contributed four assists for the Gunners.
Still awaiting his first goal for Arsene Wenger’s men, Gunners fans won’t be complaining if he continues to provide countless opportunities for team-mates to score such as Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud who have both enjoyed impressive starts to the season.
In the modern day transfer market, it is rather difficult to conclude what exactly constitutes true value for money and with Gareth Bale having transferred from Tottenham to Real Madrid for a world record breaking £86 million, Ozil can certainly be considered a shrewd acquisition if he carries on in his consistent assisting vein.
Making up the numbers in the ‘signing of the summer’ stakes were Liverpool’s impressive stopper Simon Mignolet at 12%, other pros – possibly including Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini – at 6%, Chelsea’s old stager Samuel Eto’o at 3% – with voters probably reassessing their choice – and Everton loanee Romelu Lukaku at 1%.
