The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a couple of signings over the coming weeks…
The Reds have been relatively quiet this summer, having failed to invest particularly heavily as of yet, but there is still time for Jurgen Klopp to land a few players.
However, it doesn’t appear as though recently linked duo Andre Gomes and Rafinha will be moving to Anfield – with the Liverpool Echo reporting that the Reds are not interested in the talented pair this summer.
There’s more transfer news for Liverpool too, with the Echo going on to state that Jurgen Klopp has been backed by the Liverpool brass in his approach to the Coutinho saga – with the club refusing to sell the Brazilian this summer under any circumstances.
Whilst Liverpool lack of interest seems to hint at a lack of activity for the Reds, the retention of Coutinho could well go down as the best piece of business they’ve done all summer long.
Clearly, Liverpool need more players this summer – but neither Rafinha or Andre Gomes really fit the bill. Gomes has struggled with injury, whilst Rafinha has rarely been a standout player in recent years – and so Klopp could certainly do better elsewhere.
The topic of Coutinho is far more significant for Liverpool, though, as the Reds simply cannot afford to lose the Brazilian. Our landlord has been convinced that if a big enough offer came in, then the Reds’ brass would look to cash in – but this report has calmed those fears.
Still, it’s going to be a very important few weeks for Liverpool. Holding on to Coutinho is step one, but Klopp simply must sign a few players if he wants to compete.
