‘Trophies don’t explain everything’ – Liverpool fans leap to Jurgen Klopp’s defence on Twitter

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a huge victory against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend to boost their aspirations of qualifying for the Champions League.

The January transfer window was a rather disappointing month for Liverpool despite the fact they managed to sign Virgil Van Dijk to bolster their defensive options. The main point of contention for the Liverpool fans has been their club’s failure to secure a replacement for Philippe Coutinho who left for Barcelona following a highly-publicised pursuit.

Liverpool still have the likes of Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino to slot into his position whilst the club scout for their ideal Coutinho replacement, but the supporters are dearly hoping their side’s delay in signing a replacement will not tarnish their chances of qualifying for the Champions League this season.

The Reds face a crucial fixture in their bid to finish in the top-four this weekend as they face Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday. Ahead of the highly-anticipated fixture, Sky Sports pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher discussed whether Liverpool had progressed under Jurgen Klopp and compared his tenure with that of Brendan Rodgers.

Although Klopp has taken his fair share of criticism in recent weeks after losing to Swansea City in the Premier League and crashing out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage, the majority of supporters were quick to defend their manager in response to the tweet.

And Klopp will be hoping to improve his record with a vital victory against Tottenham in the race for the top-four on Sunday afternoon.

Here’s what the Liverpool fans had to say in regard to the comparisons between Klopp and Rodgers on Twitter…
