Tottenham Hotspur should, in theory, be rather busy in the transfer market this summer.
Despite having reached the Champions League final and sealing their place in next year’s competition via the top-four next season, Mauricio Pochettino is lacking some crucial depth in certain areas of the field.
One such area is in the central midfield and the latest rumours being spun through the transfer mill seems to be suggesting that Spurs could be looking to address that in the next few months.
Two names that have recently been mentioned are Agustin Almendra and Dani Ceballos. However, of the pair, who would be the better fit at Tottenham next season and who should they look to bring to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium? Well, let’s take a closer look at the duo and compare them below…
AS Argentina have claimed Almendra is a person of interest where Tottenham are concerned this summer. The media outlet have stated that the Premier League outfit are not the only ones keen on the talented teenager though, with the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Juventus, Valencia, Manchester City, Porto and Napoli taking a shine to him.
And, it is hardly a surprise considering how bright his future looks. The Boca Juniors midfielder is just the latest of a long line of talent to have come off the club’s conveyor belt from the academy ranks and has already captained Argentina at the Under-20 level.
The 19-year-old appears to have all the talent at his feet and would be a player that would likely benefit from the guidance that Mauricio Pochettino has become famed for regarding individuals at the beginning of their careers.
However, with the likes of Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp coming through the ranks at a nice pace (who both play similar roles), bringing Almendra into the side could damage any chance that they may have of progressing through the ranks at Tottenham, which would also hinder the club’s homegrown status. Bringing him to Spurs could also prove to be a piece of risky business as well as he is not tried and tested within European football and the club are not in a position to be taking a gamble on players.

According to a report by El Desmarque, Tottenham are thought to be interested in signing Ceballos this summer from Real Madrid. The midfielder, who is valued at £18million by Transfermarkt, is deemed to be surplus to requirements under Zinedine Zidane and is thought to have been made available for a transfer this summer.
And, you would have to say the 22-year-old is a player Spurs can not simply pass up if he is put on the market! The Spaniard is incredibly gifted and talented with the ball and could provide the north London outfit with another dimension in midfield.
A versatile midfielder, Ceballos can be rather reliable in the deeper areas of the field with his defensive capabilities as he is a strong tackler, whilst he can also be utilised further forward. He has an exceptional passing ability when playing the ball to his team-mates, whilst his finishing has started to improve as he plays more regularly. Comfortable on the ball, the Spaniard likes to dribble with it at his feet, whilst he can also be quite safe in possession.
He would be able to take the pressure off of Christian Eriksen’s shoulders in terms of creativity, as the Spain international is more than capable of creating opportunities for his team-mates in the final third of the pitch.

Almendra and Ceballos could both be exceptional additions to the side in the future, however, the Spaniard must be considered as the winner of this particular battle.
The 22-year-old would be able to offer more than the Argentine at this current moment to Tottenham as he can play in a number of different areas of the midfield as he is equally adept at playing in a deep role or one that finds himself further forward.
Although he may have become an outcast at Real Madrid, the experience and knowledge he would have learnt during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu could be second-to-none and Pochettino’s side could look to use that to their advantage.
Mr Levy, you need to bring Ceballos to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer!
