TT Battle: Andre Schurrle vs Felipe Anderson

West Ham head into their next London derby against Fulham in good form having just beat Crystal Palace and Cardiff City with summer signing Felipe Anderson playing his part in those victories.

The Brazilian got his name on the scoresheet in both games and will likely be the Hammers’ danger man on the day in the absence of Marko Arnautovic.

As for Fulham, after Aleksandar Mitrovic, Andre Schurrle is the next potential match-winner in Claudio Ranieri’s squad.

Andre Schurrle

Schurrle has just returned to action following an injury in what is a huge boost for his Italian manager.

The 28-year-old arrived at Fulham over the summer from Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan deal — as owner Shahid Khan looked to give Slavisa Jokanovic an adequate squad for the Premier League campaign before his sacking — and has been one of the west London club’s better players this term.

In attack, Schurrle is a constant threat with his pace, runs in behind and finishing ability inside the box. While outside of it, he can also be dangerous thanks to the venom he can put into his long shots.

Knowing what he is capable of, at times, Schurrle will go for goal when a pass into a team-mate is the better option. But, nevertheless, the former Chelsea man has still been a great acquisition for the Cottagers.

Felipe Anderson

In contrast to Schurrle, more often than not, Anderson gets his head up, looks at the full picture, then makes the right decision be it in the form of a shot or a pass.

And when it comes to the latter, the 25-year-old gets it spot on. Not only does Anderson have the vision to find a team-mate or a dangerous space they can run into, but he also has the ability to execute the required ball.

On top of that, the Brazil international is a great dribbler, too, and is starting to find the back of the net more frequently after a slow start to life at the London Stadium.

However, given his technical ability and under a coach like Manuel Pellegrini, it was only a matter of time before the ex-Lazio player would start delivering.

West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan are often criticised by supporters and, a lot of the time, with good reason. But managing to land a player of Anderson’s quality is something they deserve plenty of credit for.

TT Verdict:

In Schurrle and Anderson, Fulham and West Ham have brought in two very good forward players.

However, analysing the two, the latter looks like the better player. On the ball, Anderson is clearly the superior individual, capable of doing so much more when in possession compared to the limited Schurrle.

While the Fulham man can become easy to read when the ball is at his feet with his desire to cut in and fire a shot towards goal, Anderson has a skill set that allows him to constantly mix things up and keep opposition defenders on their toes. Considering that, the West Ham winger wins this match-up.
