TT Battle: Christian Eriksen vs Son Heung-min

Following injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli and domestic cup eliminations, things looked bleak for Tottenham.

Yet the north London club find themselves still in the Premier League title race and 90 minutes away from making it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

How? Well largely because of Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min, who have both been carrying the mantle in Kane and Alli’s absences.

Christian Eriksen

Already a hugely influential figure in this Tottenham side, Eriksen has really stepped up of late in a period of the season where his team really needed him to.

As ever, the the 27-year-old has been creating chances and goals from the No.10 position as he continues to stake a claim for being the best playmaker in the Premier League.

With his contract set to expire next summer, as things stand, it would not be a surprise if Tottenham were forced to sell Eriksen before the start of the 2019/20 season.

And having been at the north London side since 2013, you can understand why the Denmark international might be interested in seeking a new challenge elsewhere.

But with few players capable of carving out opportunities in the way he can and as frequently, the club must do everything in their power to convince him his future is at White Hart Lane.

Son Heung-min

Unlike Eriksen, Son’s future in north London looks secure, and that is massive for the club. The 26-year-old has been at the heart of almost every positive thing Tottenham have conjured up this season.

So often when Mauricio Pochettino’s side are struggling to breakdown a team and look incapable of scoring, Son pops up when all hope appears to be lost to calmly convert past the goalkeeper.

Few in world football, if any at all, make better runs off the ball than the South Korean who usually finds the back of the net with either foot once getting onto the end of a team-mate’s pass.

After a slow start to life at White Hart Lane, Son has since gone on to firmly become one of Tottenham’s most important players and one they no longer look like they can live without.

TT Verdict:

In the last few campaigns, after Kane, Alli had easily been Tottenham’s next biggest threat.

However, this term, even before the 22-year-old’s injury, Eriksen and Son were starting to put their names in the hat for that honour.

While now, either of the two can certainly make a claim for the above as they continue to carry Tottenham’s title hopes.
