West Ham host Liverpool today, with both clubs displaying some of the most talented attackers in the Premier League.
Two of those men are The Hammers’ Felipe Anderson and Liverpool’s Xherdan Shaqiri, who both arrived in what was a momentous summer for both clubs.
Both players bring a lot of promise to the Premier League, so let’s compare these two transfers…
West Ham signed Anderson for a record fee of £36m from Lazio, in the midst of a record breaking summer.
Big things were expected from the winger. Indeed, after shelling out almost £100m on new players, as well as recruiting former Premier League winning manager Manuel Pellegrini, big things were expected of the whole club.
So far, many West Ham fans would agree that he has lived up to his price tag. The 25-year-old has managed eight goals and two assists in 24 Premier League games this season and is surely one of the club’s players of the season.
West Ham have had a turbulent season so far, but one player that has largely remained consistent is Anderson. With a sizeable price tag he had a lot of pressure on his shoulders this season, but he has delivered.
TT Grade: A
Shaqiri arrived at Liverpool last summer from relegated Stoke after The Reds triggered his £13m release clause. It was a very modest price for a player that had carried The Potters last season and was undeniably their best player.
However, he knew he would have had a job on his hands to usurp Mo Salah and Sadio Mané at Anfield. So far, it is safe to say that the stocky winger has not been able to make a great impression at Anfield.
He has managed just 11 league starts, and had some impressive cameos from the bench, but he is not one of Jürgen Klopp’s go-to men yet. However, his Liverpool career is still young, and there is promise.
Additionally, for £13m, he has lived up to his price, as, in this day and age, that is frankly a bargain.
TT Grade: B
Both Anderson and Shaqiri were big names when arriving at their new clubs, but the Swiss probably had the edge due to the fact that he was coming from another Premier League team and was therefore proven at that level.
While Shaqiri has played well so far this season, he cannot be compared to Anderson. Of course, West Ham are not performing as well as Liverpool currently, nonetheless, the impact that the Brazilian has had in London has been huge, and it is for that reason he wins this battle.Like what the TT have on offer?
