As the Premier League finally returns after the international break, all eyes are peeled on the Super Sunday match amongst two of the top teams in England.
Following a break, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool aims to keep their title march intact, as they host under-fire Tottenham Hotspur, who have been plagued with crushing losses recently, in the game before they move into their stunning new stadium at last, of course.
While it’s widely felt as if the strikers are decisive to the result, it’s actually the midfield battle which will be more intriguing. Indeed, both sides boast some world-class midfielders, but it’s the face-off between Georginio Wijnaldum and Christian Eriksen that’ll decide the tempo of the game.
Two big-game players, they’ll have to hit top stride to influence which way the game goes.
Coming off a prolific international break, where he sizzled for the Netherlands in a more advanced role, Wijnaldum might be Klopp’s trump-card against Spurs. As everyone’s attention will be on Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah, the Dutch midfielder can dominate proceedings from midfield.
He thrives on big occasions, making clever moves forward as well as creating chances from midfield. He shows more incisiveness in big games, never losing his composure under pressure. Wijnaldum’s long-range and set-piece prowess are also assets in a big game like this, as he’ll aim to set the tone for Liverpool to dominate Spurs in the middle.

Similarly, Eriksen’s also coming off a great international period where he inspired Denmark to some positive results. However, for Spurs, his responsibilities are more on the creative side. Eriksen needs to keep a cool head to save himself from Liverpool’s relentless pressing and hold the ball together more often.
Indeed, he’ll look to expose Liverpool’s frailties with clever passes forward to link-up with Kane and Son in attack. Eriksen’s set-piece ability, brilliant eye for creating and scoring goals could make him too hot to handle if he really hits his stride at Anfield.
TT Grade: A
He might not be consistent as Eriksen, but Wijnaldum craves for big occasions at Anfield. The Dutch midfielder will play with extra motivation and energy to drive his team forward, as he’ll use his zeal to overpower Eriksen’s midfield, helping Liverpool to another win.
Having been linked with Tottenham back in 2017, the Dutchman will make Spurs wish they signed him.
