Spurs face Leicester City this weekend in what will hopefully be a hotly contested game against two sides looking to push up from their respective positions.

Both sides have two creative players in Dele Alli and James Maddison who are two of the better players in the league and have both been snatched up from the lower leagues.

With the two playing each other this weekend, let's compare them...

James Maddison

Signed for a reported £20 million fee, Maddison has been an instant hit at Leicester. The creative midfielder has been one of the best players of the early part of the season in the league and arguably Leicester's best player.

In 13 appearances, he's already scored four goals while also creating two and has taken like a duck to water to the Premier League. His ability to take players on at pace and in tight areas in the final third has been a welcome addition for the club and has helped lessen the blow of losing Riyad Mahrez.

He's been so good this season that he was called into Gareth Southgate's England squad and as it stands, he looks like one of the best English talents in the league. Leicester might have a tough time keeping hold of him next summer.

Dele Alli

Signed from MK Dons in 2014 for a reported £5 million fee, Alli's initial impact at Spurs was incredible.

The creative midfielder was superb for MK Dons in League One and in his last season with the club, he had a hand in 25 goals. Since then, he's become an essential part of the Tottenham side and has shown himself to be one of the best young players in Europe.

After years of Premier League clubs looking abroad to buy talent, Tottenham were one of the first to reopen the pathway from the lower leagues to the Premier League. Thanks to Alli's performances since he's made the step up, it has allowed the likes of Maddison and David Brooks to be recognised.

The Verdict

The immediate effect Maddison has had this year has been superb. He already looks as though he's been playing in the league for years and is an essential player for Claude Puel's side.

However, he hasn't quite got to the level of Alli. He may be having a quiet season but overall, his Tottenham career has been superb and he's already one of the best in the league at just 22.
