Aston Villa have been nothing short of dominant in recent times in the Championship which has brought the fans’ play-off dreams to life, while Leicester City haven’t quite hit top form under Brendan Rodgers just yet with two wins and one loss to their name.
The Villans won’t accept anything less than a play-off place having come on leaps and bounds under the guidance of Dean Smith at Villa Park recently. Meanwhile, the Foxes will be looking to mount a late charge for a European place as they’re currently only three points off Wolves who sit in seventh position.
According to the Mirror, Leicester City are eyeing a move for Aston Villa’s John McGinn in the summer. It will be very interesting to see how this develops as the Foxes already have a decision to make regarding Youri Tielemans’ future at the King Power Stadium with his loan deal set to expire in the summer.
With that being said, let’s compared the two players…
John McGinn has proved to be one of the signings of the summer in the Championship as he always manages to put in magnificent performances for the Villans, and he’s chipped in with a healthy six goals and 10 assists.
The midfielder has done more than enough to warrant a move to the Premier League in the summer and he’s starting to make great strides on the international stage with Scotland as well, so he has a very bright future ahead.
TT GRADE: A
Youri Tielemans has impressed since joining Leicester City on loan back in the January transfer window having produced one goals and three assists in six Premier League matches.
The Belgium international has plenty of talent and he will no doubt go on to become a star in the future, so securing him on a permanent deal in the summer must be the priority for Brendan Rodgers.
TT GRADE: A-
When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that both players are performing at the top of their game at this moment in time as they continue to produce valuable contributions in the final third.
Brendan Rodgers surely has to move in to secure the Belgian on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window as he’s already played a big part in the Foxes’ rise up the Premier League table. And, John McGinn is the kind of player who could work perfectly alongside Youri Tielemans, with his attacking runs and ability to find the back of the net making up for Tielemans’ more defensive approach on the field.
Indeed, the Foxes’ current batch of midfielders are rather defensive-minded, other than James Maddison, so it would make sense for Rodgers to bring McGinn to the club.
