West Ham United certainly made an impression with their transfer activity last summer and it appears Manuel Pellegrini could be about to try and replicate their successful swoops for ambitious targets once again this time around.
Both Juan Cuadrado and Hakan Calhanoglu have been recently linked with switches to the London Stadium in what would be exciting additions for the Hammers.
However, which man would be more ideally suited to what Pellegrini needs at the London Stadium is a question that the Irons must look to answer before making what could be potentially expensive moves.
So, without further ado, who would win a transfer battle between Cuadrado and Calhanoglu? Let’s take a closer look at the duo below…
Tuttosport made the claim late in April that West Ham were interested in signing Cuadrado from Juventus, with the Serie A giants prepared to sell for between €15million and €20million (£12.9m and £17.2m). And, if that rumoured fee is thought to be correct, then it could be a rather attractive fee for a player who still has plenty of quality to offer.
The Colombian has plenty of attacking ability and could provide Pellegrini’s side with a much-needed creative spark, whilst also being able to provide the Hammers with a number of different positional options as he can play anywhere on the right-hand side of the pitch, should injuries hit the London Stadium outfit as badly as they have done this season once again. With Pablo Zabaleta ageing and Ryan Fredericks proving fairly inconsistent, the South American could be a useful addition to the right-hand side of the team.
The 30-year-old has excellent passing skills, as he is able to pick out his team-mates with a defence-splitting ball at times, whilst his ability to put a cross into the penalty box is also very strong.
However, it would seem that West Ham could face some trouble landing the Cuadrado if they were to attempt a transfer for him. Sky Sports have claimed that the Colombian has no interest in moving to the Hammers and wants to remain at Juventus for the duration of his contract. Also, the fact that he did not have a fond time at Chelsea during his previous spell could hamper any chances the Irons might have, with Tuttosport claiming he did not appear to keen on a move back to the Premier League.

Fanatik linked Calhanoglu with a move to West Ham around a week or so ago, with the Turkish publication stating that he could be available for €30million (£26m) with AC Milan prepared to sell. Like Cuadrado, if the quoted price has any truth to it, it should certainly be something the Hammers consider seriously.
The 25-year-old is still yet to reach his prime, however, the set-piece specialist has shown just how much quality he has over the past few years during his time at Milan and Bayer Leverkusen. He hit eight goals and 11 assists for the Serie A giants last season and has continued to be in impressive form this year, having scored twice and provided his team-mates with nine assists.
West Ham would benefit from the creativity that the Turkey international is blessed with, as they have had trouble creating opportunities from midfield and has shown that he can be rather versatile. Although predominantly a winger, he can also play in a more central role and still put in a top-drawer display.
Should Calhanoglu be able to make the position his own and hold it down, he would bring an additional dimension to their attack and make them even more dangerous from set-pieces, with Felipe Anderson already playing a starring role.

Both men would be quality additions at the London Stadium for various reasons, however, Calhanoglu has to be the winner of this particular battle and Mario Husillos must make a deal happen.
Whilst it would appear that West Ham would have a better chance of landing the Turkey international rather than the Colombian, the 25-year-old would be able to fill a problem that the Hammers have had for a while almost immediately.
With his ability to play in the middle and still dictate play, he could thrive in the system that Pellegrini adopts and help take the Irons to the heights they want to reach in the very near future.
