TT Battle: Kevin De Bruyne vs Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool currently find themselves one point ahead at the top of the Premier League table, with Manchester City trailing behind in second position.

The Reds won’t want to throw away their lead at the top of the table having come so far under Jurgen Klopp, so they’ll be desperate to ensure consistency from here on in. Meanwhile, the Citizens will be full of confidence after securing silverware in the form of the Carabao Cup, with the hunger to kick on and retain the Premier League title.

Indeed, Liverpool and Manchester City are currently in a fierce battle for the Premier League title, so we took a look at Kevin De Bruyne and Xherdan Shaqiri’s influence at their respective clubs.

With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…

Kevin De Bruyne, who is valued at £135 million (by Transfermarkt), played a monumental part in Manchester City’s title-winning season last time out, but he’s dropped off the pace completely in the current campaign.

Indeed, the Belgium international only has four goals and four assists to his name in all competitions, which is hugely disappointing when you consider the ability he has.

Of course, he has spent time out of the side and hasn’t always managed to get the nod from Pep Guardiola, but he’s definitely not lived up to expectations when provided with the chance to impress.

Liverpool signed the 27-year-old for just £13 million back in the summer transfer window.

Xherdan Shaqiri has to be one of the bargains of the summer as he’s played a key part in Liverpool’s title push up until this point, with six goals and two assists to his name.

The Switzerland international managed to put in a match-winning performance against Manchester United at Anfield during the first half of the season, as well as constantly having a positive impact off the substitutes’ bench.

When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Xherdan Shaqiri has already established himself as a fan favourite at Liverpool, while De Bruyne just hasn’t been able to reach his full potential at the Etihad.

Indeed, De Bruyne really has found himself in Shaqiri’s shadow this season as the former Stoke City man has constantly posed a threat and has the stats to back it up. So, the Belgian will need to improve massively if City are to stand any chance of securing the Premier League title, as he’s been their go-to man in recent years.
