Manchester City currently find themselves four points behind Liverpool in the Premier League title race, while Tottenham Hotspur are trying to mount a challenge of their own.
The Citizens will be desperate to secure the Premier League title for a second successive season, but they’ll need to rely on Liverpool dropping points for this to happen. Meanwhile, the Lilywhites have defied expectations under Mauricio Pochettino and currently find themselves two points behind City, so they’re still firmly in the race.
Indeed, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will face a battle between themselves to knock the Reds off top spot, so we took a look at Lucas Moura and Riyad Mahrez’s influence at their respective clubs.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…
Daniel Levy splashed £23 million to bring Lucas Moura to North London in January of last year, which has proved to be a brilliant agreement as he has been sensational in the current campaign.
Indeed, the Brazilian has arguably already done enough to warrant the price that was paid for his services, having scored eight goals and provided two assists, while providing key support for Harry Kane.
He will go on to play a huge part in Spurs’ title race and in the knockout stages of the Champions League, as he continues to defy expectations.
TT GRADE: A-
Manchester City secured the services of Riyad Mahrez for a club-record £60 million back in the summer transfer window. And, it’s safe to say that he has been impressive this season at the Etihad, with seven goals and six assists to his name at this moment in time.
Indeed, the Algerian international’s ability to cut in from the right-hand side has caused teams all kinds of problems, with his eagle eye for goal and ability to create making him a very dangerous asset.
TT GRADE: A-
When comparing these two it’s difficult to separate them, as Riyad Mahrez has played a big part in Man City’s title pursuit by producing a number of goals and assists, while Lucas Moura has managed to constantly provide Harry Kane with support and has an impressive amount of goals to his name.
Mahrez could prove to be a decisive figure for the Citizens in the second half of the season as his attacking qualities in the final third are hard to come by.
Meanwhile, the Brazilian will be looking to double his tally and could quite easily find himself being one of the first names on the teamsheet if he manages to go up a couple of levels.
Interestingly, Daniel Levy secured a brilliant agreement in the form of bringing Lucas Moura to the English capital for just £23 million back in January of last year, while Manchester City were chasing a huge transfer deal for Mahrez around that same point in time.
Of course, chasing Mahrez in January of last year was City’s main aim, but with Moura producing similar stats to the Algerian in the current campaign, perhaps they should have saved their cash and gone in for the Brazilian.
Both players are nearing full potential in the Premier League this season and they will both play huge parts for their respective clubs in the second half of the season, so it’s very difficult to separate them at this moment in time, though Lucas has been slightly more potent.
