TT Battle: Lucas Torreira vs Moussa Sissoko

Arsenal currently find themselves trailing in the race for a top-four spot in fifth position, while Tottenham Hotspur are motoring ahead in third position in the Premier League.

The Gunners should be looking to secure a top-four spot in the current campaign, having come on leaps and bounds under Unai Emery. Meanwhile, the Lilywhites won’t accept anything less than Champions League football, with a third place finish being an outstanding achievement.

Interestingly, Arsenal will welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Emirates tonight in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, so we took a look at Lucas Torreira and Moussa Sissoko’s influence at their respective clubs.

With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…

LUCAS TORREIRA

Sven Mislintat deserves a raise after securing the services of Lucas Torreira back in the summer transfer window for £26.5 million, as the Uruguayan has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

The defensive midfielder has adopted a dogged approach in the current campaign, which has made it impossible for the opposition to deal with, along with producing two goals and three assists.

Indeed, the 22-year-old has already had a huge impact on proceedings, so he will continue to play a massive part in Arsenal’s quest for silverware and a top-four spot.

TT GRADE: A

MOUSSA SISSOKO

Moussa Sissoko was a marquee signing back when he joined Spurs for £30 million in 2016.

He has impressed at times this season but he has had very little affect in the final third, which needs to change if he wants to make a name for himself. Indeed, the Frenchman has been deployed in a slightly deeper role in recent times as his work rate is always on point, but he does like to venture forward, which could leave the Lilywhites exposed.

Nevertheless, he is really starting to come into his own in North London, but there’re still a number of things that need to be improved in his game.

TT VERDICT:

When comparing these two, it’s clear to see that Lucas Torreira is making all the headlines at this moment in time, as Moussa Sissoko continues to live in his shadow.

The energetic South American has all the ingredients to become one of the very best in world football, and Unai Emery is the perfect man to develop his game.

Meanwhile, Sissoko can be a real handful on his day and will play a big part in Spurs’ campaign, but he just doesn’t look as dangerous in his newly-found deeper role.

Both players have already showcased their talents at times in the Premier League this season, but it’s Arsenal who are having the last laugh as Sven Mislintat’s shrewd steal is putting Sissoko to shame, which slightly makes up for the fact that the Gunners are trailing behind Spurs in the race for a top-four spot.
