Everton currently find themselves chasing down a European place, while Southampton fight for their Premier League survival under Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The Toffees will set their sights on securing a European spot in the second half of the campaign after spending heavily back in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Saints will work tirelessly to preserve their Premier League status, with a relegation dog fight on their hands if they suffer a dip in form.
Interestingly, Southampton will welcome Everton to St Mary’s later on today, so we took a look at Richarlison and Danny Ings’ influence at their respective clubs.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…
Marcel Brands made a big statement back in the summer transfer window as he helped the Toffees secure a huge transfer deal, as they signed Richarlison from Watford in a potential £50 million deal.
The Brazilian has been their shining light in the current campaign, having produced an impressive nine goals and two assists as Everton’s No. 9 for large parts.
Of course, the 21-year-old has been worth the money so far this season, but he will need to go up a few gears in the second half of the season to really silence his few critics.
TT GRADE: A-
Southampton secured the services of Danny Ings for £20 million back in the summer transfer window, initially on a season-long loan but with a commitment for an additional three years.
It’s safe to say that the Englishman has proved to be a great signing already as he continues to fire for the Saints, with a respectable eight goals and one assist to his name in 16 appearances.
Ralph Hasenhuttl has certainly improved things at St Mary’s since taking over, but supporters will be relying on Ings to carry their side away from the relegation zone in the second half of the season.
TT GRADE: B+
When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Richarlison has made more headlines in the current campaign, but Danny Ings is not far off matching the Brazilian as both have played in the same position.
The youngster has been a special addition for the Toffees and will only get better from here on in as he’s still at the start of what is turning out to be a very promising football career.
On the other hand, Ings is finally showing supporters what he’s capable of after a long stretch on the sidelines during his time at Liverpool, so he will be keen to kick on from here on in.
Both players are currently performing at the top of their game in the Premier League, but it’s Richarlison who has taken his game to the next level at times this this season, despite Ings’ dominance at Southampton.
