TT Battle: Ruben Neves vs Jefferson Lerma

Wolves take on Bournemouth this weekend in what is a game between two sides that look as though they’re destined for a top 10 finish.

Arguably one of the best signings the club has made in recent memory, Ruben Neves has turned into a superb player for Wolves and looks as though he’s destined for a big money move in the future.

To add some quality in midfield, Bournemouth signed Jefferson Lerma over the summer and with the two sides facing each other, let’s compare them.

Ruben Neves

Thanks to the help of super agent, Jorge Mendes, Wolves signed Porto’s wonderkid, Ruben Neves and ever since his arrival, the midfielder has been a star for the club.

Still only, 21, the list of personal accolades that Neves has accrued is incredible. He became the youngest Portuguese player to play in the Champions League, he was also the youngest player to score in the Primeira Liga and also became the youngest player to captain Porto in Europe. After almost 18 months at the club, it’s clear to see why the midfielder rose up through the ranks at Porto so quickly.

He was essential in getting the club back into the Premier League and has so far this been superb. His passing range is brilliant and he also has the ability to score from range. Signed for around £16 million, Wolves pulled off an absolute steal.

Jefferson Lerma

Powerful, dynamic and an ideal fit for Bournemouth, Eddie Howe spent a club record, £25 million to sign the midfielder from Spanish club, Levante.

Despite picking up his 22nd yellow card of the year, Lerma has been impressive for Bournemouth although it’s been a steep learning cove for the midfielder. Sitting in the middle of Howe’s midfield, Lerma is asked to not only sit in front of the defence but also be good enough with the ball to play forward, so far this season he’s done that well.

He may not have the ability to pass like Neves but he is a very dynamic player and his style of play looks ideally suited to the Premier League. He may have cost a club record fee but it looks as though Bournemouth may have a future star on their hands.

TT Grade: B-

The Verdict

Lerma looks like he could well turn into a very good Premier League player but he still has a lot to learn. Due to the fee Wolves paid for Neves in comparison to his talent, the Portuguese midfielder wins this one.

Wolves pulled off a huge coup when they capture Neves and he looks destined for the top.
