TT Battle: Salomon Rondon vs Cenk Tosun

Newcastle United were poor last time out in their recent defeat to West Ham, though it has still been a good period for the club with the team playing well overall of late.

Salomon Rondon, in particular, has impressed under Rafael Benitez as he now prepares to down upcoming opponents Everton.

As for the Toffees, Cenk Tosun, who has struggled for form in contrast to his Newcastle counterpart, is just one name Marco Silva could turn to on the day when selecting a striker.

With that in mind, have a look at how the two match up ahead of their potential showdown here.

Salomon Rondon

After a slow start to life at St. James’ Park, Rondon has really picked up in recent weeks, scoring some big goals for his side.

Newcastle could now look to make the Venezuela international’s loan move from West Brom a permanent one, and it is not hard to understand why.

On top of the goals he has been scoring recently, Rondon has also led the line well overall for the Tyneside club.

With his strength, he holds up the ball efficiently before laying it off to a team-mate, while he is also no slouch, having enough pace to turn and drive or make runs when necessary.

The above, alongside the threat he carries in the air, makes Rondon a very dangerous forward, one that Everton will have to pay close attention to on Saturday.

Cenk Tosun

Similarly to Rondon, Tosun also had a lacklustre beginning to the campaign. However, unlike the Newcastle No.9, the 27-year-old has yet to discover any real form.

As a result, Tosun has found himself in and out of the team with manager Silva seemingly more sold on Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which is a shame for the Turkey international.

Tosun has shown glimpses of his true quality since arriving from Besiktas last January with his movement particularly impressive.

That alone, though, obviously is not enough for an outfit such as Everton who are aiming to be a Champions League level club.

TT Verdict:

In this moment of time, it is quite clear who the superior No.9 is out of Rondon and Tosun.

Rondon, who scored in the reverse fixture back in December, is playing with more confidence and skill.

Meanwhile, Tosun, a man Farhad Moshiri has invested a lot of money in, cannot even get into Everton’s starting XI, often showing very little in the minutes he does get, thus leaving Silva unconvinced.
