Another transfer window but the same story for West Ham United – find an out-and-out goalscorer!
If the Hammers had any real weakness last season, it was the fact that they did not have a striker in their ranks that could find the back of the net on a regular basis. If they did, then who knows; a seventh-placed finish could have been on the cards.
However, it seems the Irons are looking to address that problem (once again) in the current transfer market and have taken an interest in two men who know how to find the back of the net.
Both Salomon Rondon and Wesley Moraes have been linked with a switch to the London Stadium in recent weeks as the Premier League outfit start to identify their targets.
However, which man would be better suited to playing for West Ham and would be more likely to finally end their hoodoo when it comes down to strikers? Well, let’s take a closer look below…
First things first, all ‘good’ strikers know how to find the back of the net on a regular basis and can perform consistently well in some of football’s toughest leagues. Does Rondon tick those boxes? You bet he does!
The Northern Echo have claimed Manuel Pellegrini’s side are ready to pay the £16.5million buy-out clause in the Venezuelan’s contract and could look to prise him away from Newcastle United’s grasp and take him off of West Bromwich Albion’s hands.
The South American has been vital for the Magpies over the last 12 months or so, having bagged himself 11 goals in the black-and-white strip of the Toon, whilst also chipping in with an additional seven assists for his team-mates.
That goal tally is level with a certain Marko Arnuatovic, however, the 29-year-old would be more adept to playing the system Pellegrini likes to adopt in his side and is more than capable of holding the ball up for his colleagues to get up the pitch and help him out when required.
TT Grade: B
The Newcastle Chronicle are claiming West Ham are interested in securing the services of Moraes this summer and it is hardly a surprise as to why his name has been linked with a move to the London Stadium.
He has recently admitted that he would like to play in the Premier League and is prepared to leave Club Brugge in the transfer window.
The young-and-talented Brazilian forward has been hugely impressive for his club over the last three seasons, however, the last campaign saw his stockpile rise significantly. The 22-year-old was involved in 27 goals and assists last season in the Jupiler League Pro for the Belgian outfit as they finished runners-up.
Taking away from his figures (as hard as that might be to do), the South American stands at 6ft 3in tall and has the physical attributes to make him a real threat in the system that Pellegrini likes to adopt at West Ham and could thrive by linking up with the likes of Felipe Anderson.
TT Grade: B+
Both are talented individuals and would both bring a physical style of play to the London Stadium outfit whilst also being able to offer a real goal-threat to the side.
Rondon obviously has the proven Premier League experience and the release clause in his contract is a rather attractive figure, however, Moraes has bundles of quality and is still far from the finished product and as such, still has time to develop into a top talent.
For those reasons, the Brazilian has to win this battle.
