Southampton currently find themselves floating around in the relegation zone, while Leicester City are in a European spot in seventh position at this moment in time.
The Saints will be desperate to climb up the table and away from danger during the second half of the season, with Ralph Hasenhuttl certainly improving things in recent times. Meanwhile, the Foxes have defied expectations under the guidance of Claude Puel, with a successful January transfer window helping their cause.
Interestingly, Leicester City will entertain Southampton in their next Premier League fixture, so we took a look at Stuart Armstrong and Rachid Ghezzal’s influence at their respective clubs.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…
Stuart Armstrong joined Southampton for £7 million back in the summer transfer window, and it’s safe to say that he is now starting to pull his weight in the Premier League.
The former Celtic man has found the back of the net on three occasions and has been a solid performer for Ralph Hasenhuttl in recent times, so he has proved to be a clever signing.
TT GRADE: B+
Leicester City signed Rachid Ghezzal for £10 million from AS Monaco. He was originally drafted in as a direct replacement for Riyad Mahrez, but he just hasn’t been able to live up to expectations so far this season.
Indeed, he does have three goals to his name at this moment in time, along with bags of skill and a couple of moments of brilliance, but improvements are needed overall.
TT GRADE: B
When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Stuart Armstrong is slightly edging things due to his consistency and overall performances, while Rachid Ghezzal has shown plenty of promise but is yet to really hit top form.
The Scotland international will play a big part during the second half of the season, both in defensive and attacking areas for the Saints out wide.
Meanwhile, the Algerian international will be looking to go up a few gears as he has the potential and ability to establish himself as a star during the second half of the campaign.
Indeed, Southampton secured the services of Armstrong while Leicester waved goodbye to Mahrez, who is valued at £54 million (by Transfermarkt), back in the summer months, which saw Ghezzal join the club as his replacement.
Both players are yet to really reach their full potential and could do with a boost of confidence, but it’s Armstrong who is currently edging things with his overall game.
