TT Battle: Youri Tielemans vs Victor Wanyama

Tottenham Hotspur currently find themselves sitting in third position, while Leicester City float around in the middle of the table after suffering defeat at Vicarage Road.

Spurs will be focused on finishing in the top four this season having ruined their own slim title hopes in recent weeks. Meanwhile, the Foxes will be looking to ensure consistency under Brendan Rodgers, with a European spot being the main aim from here on in until the end of the season.

Interestingly, Tottenham Hotspur reportedly (as per The Mirror Transfer Live blog, 17:54, Wednesday, January 30th, 2019) (via HITC) turned down the chance to sign Youri Tielemans in the January transfer window.

So, with Victor Wanyama only just returning to Spurs’ midfield, let’s compare the two players…

Youri Tielemans joined Leicester City on loan from French side AS Monaco back in the January transfer window.

The central midfielder has been extremely impressive since moving to the King Power Stadium as he’s already managed to produce two assists in four Premier League matches. Indeed, his passing ability and vision has worked wonders in recent weeks, with the Foxes’ attackers constantly benefiting from his quality.

He will play a big part from here on in until the end of the season under Rodgers and the Foxes will no doubt look to sign him permanently in the summer transfer window if he continues to impress.

Victor Wanyama spent a large period of time out this season due to an injury but he’s now back in in the side and managed to start in Harry Winks’ absence against Arsenal in Spurs’ last Premier League game.

However, he just isn’t the same player he once was as a mixture of injuries and a lack of game time has halted his progress, with Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Eric Dier all ahead of him in the pecking order when fit.

When comparing these two, it’s safe to say that Youri Tielemans has a lot more about him and he’s already starting to show just how talented he is in the Premier League, while Victor Wanyama has struggled to keep fit in North London and he lacks the passing ability that the Belgian has shown in recent times.

Of course, with Harry Winks missing Spurs’ last league match and Eric Dier currently spending time out on the sidelines, it’s safe to say that Daniel Levy will be full of regret after reportedly turning down the chance to sign Tielemans back in the January transfer window. Indeed, Spurs could definitely do with his passing ability and drive in the middle of midfield, with a mixture of injuries and a lack of quality taking its toll recently.
