TT Predicts: Aston Villa vs Sheffield United - Aston Villa

Aston Villa will face Sheffield United on Wednesday evening as the Premier League season returns to complete the 2019/2020 season.

Dean Smith’s Villa side sit 19th in the Premier League as things stand and will be looking to take advantage of what is a game in hand for them over their relegation threatened rivals.

Having had a fairly inconsistent season, the Claret and Blue outfit will be looking to find similar form to that which saw them reach the Carabao Cup final where they lost to Manchester City earlier this year.

The Blades will provide a tough test for Villa, having had a remarkable season in the Premier League following promotion last term.

Sitting 7th in the league standings, a win for Chris Wilder’s side could see them sit above Manchester United in 5th place ahead of the weekend’s action.

With all eyes on Wednesday night’s game at Villa Park, the first Premier League game since early March, WE have given our predictions…

Ben Crump

Villa simply have to win, but they will find it tough against a United side that have been excellent and are on the hunt for a European place. Fitness may play a large part after a break in football, but if the game is anything like the 3-3 tie in the Championship last term, then we as football fans should be in a for a cracker. 2-2.

Adam Clancy

Given the high number of away wins in the Bundesliga with no fans present, it is hard not to back Wilder’s side. If they can keep Jack Grealish quiet, the Blades will keep marching on. 1-2.

Jonathan Radcliffe

This match will bring a new era into Premier League football – that without fans. It will be particularly interesting to see how both sides react to an empty stadium, something they will have not experienced in the top flight before. On paper, Sheffield United should ease to victory against a side in the relegation zone, but form is not even on the table after three months without a competitive game. Home advantage for the Villans, too, is unlikely to come into play, but I can see them causing an upset against Chris Wilder’s side. They could catch them cold. 2-1.

Georgia Goulding

It will be an extremely cagey affair as two sides with a lot to fight for lock horns in the first Premier League match back in action. Villa are struggling against a mean relegation battle whilst the Blades have their sights firmly set on a spot in Europe, which would be the first time in the club’s history. Despite both needing the win, Sheffield United have the personnel to edge it and I can see it ending with a slim win for Chris Wilder’s side. 1-2.

Jack Maleham

Looking at the league table, this one should be an away win. Sheffield United have adapted far better to life in the top flight and have all-but secured survival, whilst Villa have a fight on their hands to follow suit.

I have to go for a Blades win here, they have been outstanding this term and their away form in particular has been impressive – they have only lost twice on the road, against Man City and Liverpool. Chris Wilder’s side have a mean defence, conceding the second fewest goals in the league. Villa will need to find a way of breaking them down, but do they have enough? I don’t think so.

The Blades are not prolific goalscorers themselves, so on that basis, I would suggest a 0-1 away win.
