TT Predicts: Brighton v Manchester United - Premier League

Brighton will seek to maintain their solid restart to the Premier League season when they host Manchester United at the Amex Stadium tonight.

A last-gasp win over Arsenal and a goalless draw at Leicester have lifted the Seagulls six points clear of the relegation zone and they have a game in hand on two of the four teams immediately beneath them.

They have beaten the Red Devils in both previous Premier League editions of this fixture, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men come into the game with a Champions League place firmly in their sights and off the back of progression to the FA Cup semi-finals.

The Norwegian kept the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba in reserve at Norwich on Saturday, only deploying the trio as substitutes, so they could all be brought into their line-up for tonight. Graham Potter could be deprived of the services of centre-back Adam Webster, who faces a late fitness test to see if he will be fit enough to feature against Manchester United.

A third successive Amex win over the Red Devils would virtually ensure Brighton’s place in the Premier League for next season but can they again take advantage of the ailing form of the teams behind them? Here are some predictions from the team at Football Transfer Tavern:

Liam Togher

Brighton have had two very good results since the Premier League restart and their two previous wins over Man United suggest that they won’t have an inferiority complex against the Red Devils. Webster would be a loss if he isn’t fit but Potter has another strong centre-half to call upon in Shane Duffy if needed. Up top, Neal Maupay is Albion’s main threat but Aaron Connolly looked lively at Leicester and could be a thorn in United’s side if he features tonight.

The visitors looked excellent against Sheffield United last week before stuttering past Norwich in the FA Cup. That still hints at inconsistency from Solskjaer’s men but, with Martial and Rashford likely to be recalled, they have the firepower to keep their Champions League charge firmly on track. Also, after their last two defeats at this ground, complacency shouldn’t be an issue.

Prediction: Brighton 0-2 Man United

Adam Clancy

Brighton will have taken some comfort from Manchester United only just getting over the line at Norwich City, and it was 1-1 after 90 minutes. With a win against Arsenal and a draw away at Leicester City, in which Neal Maupay missed a penalty, they have shown that they can perform against the big boys.

However, the Red Devils will likely recall Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who is off the back of his hat-trick against Sheffield United, back into the side. The Seagulls have a decent record at the Amex against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, but I have a feeling that Man U will nick it and continue their chase for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Prediction: Brighton 1-2 Man United

Ben Crump

This could be a tough game for United. They were extremely poor and lacking ideas at the weekend against Norwich and they will look for better performances from the likes of Bruno Fernandes and co. Brighton are doing okay at the moment and they could look to that win over Arsenal a few weeks ago to try and do similar against United.

Prediction: Brighton 1-2 Man United

Georgia Goulding

Wolves are now ahead of United in the table, so they will be looking to regain their stance and try to push into the top four. With Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba working well together, they could have a recipe for success in the middle of the park. However, Brighton aren’t to be underestimated. They recently gave Arsenal and Leicester a headache and could also upset the Reds at the Amex.

There’s only a handful of games remaining and the pressure could get to Solskjaer’s men. If Brighton remain solid, I think they can do enough to grab a result.

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Man United

Jack Maleham

This will be a tough game for Manchester United, as Brighton have looked pretty strong since the Premier League resumed. Indeed, the Seagulls secured a victory against Arsenal in their first game back before drawing 0-0 away at Leicester City, four points from those two games is a very respectable return for Graham Potter.

That said, United have also been excellent since coming back. A draw with Spurs was followed up by a superb 3-0 victory against high-flying Sheffield United, before their rotated side won 2-1 in the FA Cup against Norwich. With Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba now fit to play alongside Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes they look a real threat.

The Red Devils will be tested at the Amex, but I expect them to win the game.

Prediction: Brighton 0-2 Man United
