The Marouane Chamakh saga has now taken another twist as Liverpool have joined the race for the Moroccan’s signature in an attempt to hijack Arsenal’s bid. The Gunners were believed to be firm favourites to land the striker, who is out of contract in the summer, yet have yet to make any solid advances and Liverpool are rumoured to have offered the Bordeaux star a pre-contract agreement.
Liverpool have been searching for another quality striker to assist Fernando Torres at Anfield and given the club’s financial problems, Chamakh could be the perfect answer. The Moroccan has made is clear that he will remain a Bordeaux player until the end of his contract, having told clubs to “forget about me” for the duration of the January transfer window, yet Rafa Benitez is believed to be eyeing up the striker who has taken the French League by storm.
Chamakh, 25, is a versatile attacking player, able to perform as an attacking midfielder, winger or striker and thus could prove a major coup for the Merseyside club. It is no secret that Liverpool have been lacking in the striking department this year and a move for the highly-sought after Moroccan could be just what the club need.
