It had looked like the Spaniard was odds-on to move to Italian outfit AC Milan but according to talkSPORT, Roma are set to make a late swoop to derail the Rossoneri’s bid.
Torres has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and is yet to feature for Jose Mourinho’s Blues side this season.
And it now seems that the 30-year-old former Liverpool striker will be allowed to leave West London – initially on loan.
AC Milan were favourites but now Roma are keen on a move and the Giallorossi can lure the striker to Italy with the promise of Champions League football this season.
That could also play into the hands of Chelsea who had already earmarked Roma striker Mattia Destro as the Spaniards’ ideal replacement.
It is unlikely that Chelsea will allow the striker to leave unless a replacement is already lined up – especially now Diego Costa is an injury doubt.
Chelsea fans. How happy would you be if a deal could be done involving Torres and Destro? Let us know your thoughts below.
