The Mail on Sunday have made Arsenal fans more than a little bit depressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they rub some salt in old wounds of Gunners fans.
The North London giants saw two former midfield stars Alex Song and Cesc Fabregas be put up for sale in the summer as Barcelona looked to reinvigorate their side under new boss Luis Enrique.
However, as the story goes, Arsenal fans have to watch Song and Fabregas put in a series of impressive performances for London rivals West Ham United and Chelsea on a weekly basis.
That said, it could have been all different given these interesting quotes that have emerged recently.
Song was speaking to L’Equipe and in quotes that will kill Arsenal fans, the Cameroonian claimed: “I would have liked to come back, but they didn’t want me.
“That is life. I’m not mad at them.
“Cesc also wanted to come back to Arsenal, who did not want activate their buy-back clause. It was surprising. When I see what he is doing at Chelsea. He is even better than before!”
As one of our punters notes, Song might not be mad at Arsene Wenger but the fans certainly are given both midfielders are flying this season and could certainly have improved the Gunners’ squad with Arsenal yet again battling for fourth spot instead of the title.
Arsenal fans. Is this yet another example of why it is a case of #WengerOut this season? How much further up the table would you have been with Song and Cesc? Let us know your thoughts below.
