‘Txiki madness incoming’, ‘Better than Sterling’ – Man City fans urge club to make dramatic deadline day deal on Twitter

The Manchester City fans were delighted in the Transfer Tavern yesterday after they completed the signing of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao, but their January negotiations may not be concluded just yet.

Following weeks of speculation regarding various different players, City finally completed the signing of a centre-back yesterday as Laporte made a £57 million move to the league-leaders. City were desperate to bolster their defensive options this month due to concerns over the fitness of Vincent Kompany and the competency of Eliaquim Mangala, so it’s no wonder the supporters were delighted by Laporte’s arrival.

However, City’s squad is one of the smallest in the Premier League, and there is a suggestion that they could be set to make an audacious eleventh hour bid to sign a new winger on deadline day, namely Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

According to reports from The Sun, City have submitted a £60 million bid to The Foxes in an attempt to force through a late deal for the Algerian winger. A deal for Mahrez does seem to make perfect sense for The Citizens now that Leroy Sane has been ruled out with a ligament injury he sustained in City’s FA Cup tie last Sunday. And Sane’s injury has certainly given the City fans plenty of reason to turn out in their numbers to call for Mahrez’s signature on Twitter.

The performances of Leicester City’s crown jewel in recent years have deservedly made Mahrez one of the most highly-regarded players in the English top-flight, and there seems to be no doubt amongst the supporters that he would be able to replicate the scintillating form he has shown at The Foxes in City blue.

Here’s what the City fans on Twitter have had to say about the potential of signing Mahrez…
