It’s been a fairly miserable few weeks for the Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern as they watch their early season title hopes fade into dust.
Indeed, our resident Reds were oh so full of optimism following a win over Arsenal in August, though the defensive frailty that has so far summed up Jurgen Klopp’s tenure is still painfully evident to our local Kopites, much to their frustration.
Still, quotes sourced from the Daily Mirror have at least given some of our local Liverpudlians a sense of perspective.
Steven Gerrard, currently working as the club’s U18 coach, has revealed that he’s still expecting his beloved Liverpool to come good and has backed Klopp to the hilt, despite the German having come under some criticism of late.
“We’re seven games into a Premier League campaign – it’s no time to panic,” he said.
“We’ve got a wonderful manager and coaching staff that are looking after these players.”
The Champions League-winning skipper’s call for calm has certainly settled the nerves amongst some of our Liverpool fans, something Klopp’s likely to be delighted with, having appeared rather tetchy of late.
It’s still important to remember that Gerrard works for Liverpool, so is never likely to come out in public and slag them off, as genuine as these quotes might be.
To be fair, if Liverpool were finishing the chances they’re making, then life would be an awful lot easier for Klopp right now.
