Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we have to admit we were a little surprised when we saw Nani was not on the bench for the midweek Champions League clash against Real Madrid and it seems the Daily Express feel this casts doubt on his Red Devils future.
The winger has suffered this season at Old Trafford and has not really made the impact he may have hoped for. The Portuguese player only has one year left on his deal at Old Trafford and many of our punters here in the tavern feel he will be sold this summer – especially given the imminent arrival of Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha.
Being the manager he is however, Sir Alex Ferguson sought to deflect questions over the winger’s future, noting that it was not just Nani who was disappointed. He claimed: “There were a lot of disappointed players. Nani and Ashley Young – international footballers – and I found it hard to explain to them I was leaving them out.”
Of course the club have a vital away goal to take back to Old Trafford and many would feel that they are now in the driving seat in the tie – providing they can stop Real Madrid or more accurately Cristiano Ronaldo from finding the back of the net!
For now however the club are turning their attention to their FA Cup clash against Reading on Monday night with the Red Devils looking to progress to the quarter finals.
