With Edwin Van Der Saar nearing the end of his career, and dare we say it with more mistakes creeping in each season which may cost Fergie’s men vital points, is Sir Alex already looking for a replacement for the Dutchman? Has he already found one??
Ben Foster is getting his playing time at Birmingham City and Tomasz Kuszczak is reportedly set to leave in the summer to make way for Spanish stopper wonderkid, David De Gea. A winner of the UEFA Super Cup and last year’s Europa League, De Gea already has a taste of the bigtime and has caught Fergie’s eye. Reports suggests that transfer talks are already at an advanced stage with even a possible move as soon as January for De Gea being targeted.
With De Gea only 20 years old, (a mere half the age of Van Der Saar!), it appears that the future looks bright for the Old Trafford faithful, at least as far as goalkeepers go. As far back as March this year, De Gea admitted he had turned down other offers to hold out for his dream move to Manchester (still United, not City) and Fergie has even been over to personally check on his young shot-stopping protégé. This one looks like a dead cert.
