Punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up from the bar, after the Metro claimed that Manchester United are set to make a mammoth bid for Edinson Cavani.
The Red Devils look set to offer Paris Saint Germain at least £56 million for the player – and that has left us open mouthed.
Manchester United, and new manager Louis van Gaal are determined to see the club back on top next season and given they will not be playing European football, they will have six days to prepare for most games – meaning that there will be no excuses.
Cavani has made no secret of the fact that he is unhappy with life in Paris and would look for a move should the offer be right and indeed the club be willing to play him in his favoured position.
That has of course lead our punters to wondering just what will happen with not only Wayne Rooney but also Robin Van Persie. United may be adventurous next season but playing three out and out forwards might be a lot even for them!
