It’s been a frantic summer of transfer dealings in the Premier League but after some shocking news broke this weekend, could we about to see a deal that eclipses the fee paid for Neymar earlier this week?
Well, it’s certainly got the Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern talking.
Of course, we’re talking about Cristiano Ronaldo and a potential return to England. According to Sky Sports, the Portuguese superstar wants a return to England as he continues to fight to clear his name over tax-evasion claims.
It would take an astronomical amount of money to bring him back to United or even England, especially after Paris St Germain paid a staggering £200million to bring Neymar to France from Barcelona.
But any move to bring Ronaldo back to England or even Old Trafford would be the biggest transfer in history and after his comments this week, that is looking closer.
Ronaldo said: “I never had these problems in England. That’s why I want to go back there.”
Make of this what you will but to us, you’ve got to wonder whether the Ballon D’Or winner is truly happy in Madrid and whether he’ll be able to properly enjoy his football there again after these tax claims.
And as you can imagine, football fans have had a lot to say about the deal and they’ve been reacting in their droves online…
United should just put a cheeky £65Million bid in for Ronaldo. Test the water in light of his comments yesterday. Nothing to lose. #mufc

Ronaldo wants to come back to England
So Ronaldo wants a move back to England, but Josè says the move is impossible, it'd break my heart to see him in anything but red
Ronaldo heard about neymars wages so he is pretending he wants to go back to England so @realmadriden will give him a new deal
