Manchester United are reportedly set to re-open their interest in Holland striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar according to the Daily Mail. The 26-year-old is unsettled at AC Milan having failed to break into the first team regularly and having to play as a backup to Alexandre Pato and is eager to move on to boost his chances of making Holland’s World Cup squad for the summer.
Huntelaar has proven a deadly striker everywhere he’s played so far in his career; he has scored 14 goals in 29 international appearances to go alongside remarkable spells in his homeland with both Heerenveen and Ajax where he scored ridiculous amounts of goals. A spell at Real Madrid then saw 8 goals from 20 games which is far from a bad record but he was another victim of Real’s Galactico signings and was allowed to leave in the summer. Amidst lots of interest Huntelaar chose Milan as his move of choice but it has proven a poor choice so far as he cannot make the first team, leading to a quick demand for another move.
United are believed to be in need of firepower with Wayne Rooney and company having drawn a blank on a few occasions so far this season and Huntelaar certainly offers his employers a goal threat. United will face competition for his signing from numerous clubs though with a surprise inclusion being Steve McLaren’s FC Twente who want to take him back to Holland on loan. His agents though are reportedly only interested in Huntelaar joining a bigger club which makes United a much more plausible option.
