Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern hope their club use their initiative after the Daily Star revealed that Ajax will allow Jasper Cillessen to leave for Old Trafford if the price is right.
Louis van Gaal is supposedly a big fan of the shot stopper after his time as manager of the Dutch national team at the World Cup last summer.
David De Gea is closing in on a move to his homeland as he is set to swap Manchester for Madrid.
Although the Red Devils may opt to sign someone else instead of Cillessen because they have other targets, including Hugo Lloris from Spurs and Asmir Begovic of Stoke.
The asking price from the Eredivisie side is £18m and they will not budge unless this fee is met.
The 26-year-old revealed his club’s approach to him leaving as he seems to be in a tough situation.
“The Ajax management are going to make it really difficult when the interest becomes concrete,” Cillessen told the Sunday Mirror.
“If I had planned to leave, I would not have signed a new contract until 2018. My old contract was expiring in the summer of 2016 and in that case this summer would have been the perfect moment to leave.
“[Ajax coach] Frank de Boer has been very clear when he received questions about my transfer – he wants to block it.”
