The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to land a defender that is as good as Nemanja Vidic was at Old Trafford.
The former Red Devils’ captain was a mainstay in the team for a period under Sir Alex Ferguson, and the grit, determination and sheer quality that he provided at the back was crucial to their success.
In truth, that’s something that Man Utd are in need of right now. They’re lacking quality and depth at the back, and though Eric Bailly has been strong, he can’t do it all alone.
Perhaps, then, Jose Mourinho should turn to Bayer Leverkusen man Jonathan Tah, who is rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt.
Tah, like Vidic, is a huge physical presence. Standing at a towering 6ft4, the German is a real unit at the back, and that makes him incredibly threatening defensively. He’s able to out-jump even the tallest of attackers, whilst his raw power also means that he wouldn’t be messed around in the English top flight, which is, naturally, a league that requires physicality. He’s also strong offensively, given his physical presence, and so he’d pop up with important goals – just like Vidic did.
However, there is a lot more to his game than just physicality. Nemanja Vidic was known for his tackling, and Tah provides just as much quality and ability in that regard. He’s also got decent pace, allowing him to recover quickly, and he’s also fairly technical with the ball at his feet.
Significantly, he’s also just 22-years-old, and so in Tah, Man Utd would have a long-standing defender in the ilk of someone like Vidic, and his arrival would finally put an end to the constant chopping and changing at the back for the Red Devils.
