It has been a hugely impressive start to life in the Premier League for Sheffield United, who have picked up 16 points from their first 11 matches back in the top flight (via BBC Sport).
The Blades’ latest positive result came against Burnley on Saturday as they ran out as 3-0 winners against the Clarets at Bramall Lane.
John Lundstram took most of the headlines due to his brace of goals, whilst Lys Mousset’s performance was also spoken about in glowing terms as he provided three assists in the match.
However, one player whose excellent display has perhaps gone under the radar somewhat is left-back Enda Stevens.
The Republic of Ireland international played a major role in Sheffield United’s success against their Lancastrian opponents, both defensively and offensively.
Will Sheffield United avoid the drop?
First and foremost, he was outstanding when it came to his defensive responsibilities. He made two successful tackles, one clearance and won one aerial duel in the match as he helped the team keep a clean sheet (via WhoScored).
On top of that, he also made huge contributions when it came to two of the Blades’ goals. He played a terrific ball down the left hand side to David McGoldrick which ended up leading to their first goal of the afternoon (@SheffieldUnited), before then whipping in a brilliant cross which was touched on by Mousset for Lundstram to fire home their second (@SheffieldUnited).
The Irishman has been a regular for Chris Wilder’s side this season, starting all 11 of their Premier League matches so far and helping them to five clean sheets whilst also claiming a couple of assists(Transfermarkt).
Whilst he wasn’t singled out for praise by most pundits following the game against Burnley, there is no doubt that he played a huge role in another three points for the South Yorkshire outfit. Stevens has adapted to Premier League life seamlessly and will be a key player for the Blades this term.
