Chelsea stumbled to a 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon, despite holding a rather comfortable two-goal advantage at half-time.
Tammy Abraham hit a brace in the first-half as he continued his fine start to life in the Blues’ first-team, however Frank Lampard has been made to wait for his second competitive win.
Callum Robinson and a Kurt Zouma own goal meant the hosts would head into the upcoming international break with just five points from their opening four games in the Premier League.
Lampard lamented the squad for their inability to see out the game and blamed a lack of concentration as the reason as to why his side did not come away from the match with all three points.
Although the boss mentioned the defensive issues were looked upon as a group, one player that appeared to put in a shift and could, perhaps, hold his head high after the game was Jorginho.
The Italy international midfielder has come in for plenty of criticism since joining Chelsea from Napoli for a figure thought to be around £50m (with the potential of rising to £57m, per Sky Sports).
Lampard praised the 27-year-old for how he has managed to deal with the fans that have been critical of his performances in the past and feels he has been showing his best for the Blues in recent matches and turning those negative views into positive reactions.
Indeed, Jorginho, perhaps, may have silenced even more of those doubters with his display against Sheffield United on Saturday.
According to data compiled by WhoScored, the Italian led the charts with four tackles, two interceptions and three clearances defensively, whilst he also tried to help Chelsea with their attacking play. He managed to make 86 passes at a success rate of 84.9%.
If Jorginho can continue to put in solid performances akin to the standard he produced against the Blades, then, perhaps, the criticism towards him will start to dwindle.
